About 1,800 smoke detectors set in homes of more families in Moldova

Chisinau, 21 May /MOLDPRES/ – About 1800 smoke detectors were installed in homes of several families by employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) of the Ministry of Interior Affairs (MAI).
The actions took place within national campaign "A protected home, a saved life". Totally, almost 1,617 families from districts Ungheni, Cantemir, Leova, Anenii Noi, Criuleni, Edinet, Floresti, Basarabeasca and Chisinau municipalities benefited from toxic gas detection facilities.
Interviewed by agency, press officer of IGSU, Liliana Puscasu, specified that most of detectors were installed in homes of elderly people, families with many children and bedridden ones. "Once alarm is triggered, people have to leave the house and alert emergency services. The campaign aims to prevent bonfires and poisoning with carbon monoxide, which can occur in people's homes from sources of ignition or heating," said Puscasu.
According to the IGSU's statistical data, 40 cases of smoke poisoning have occurred in Moldova since in 2018, where had to suffer 55 persons, including 24 children. Out of total number of intoxications, 13 cases resulted in death of 18 persons, including 4 children.
The national campaign "A protected house, a saved life" will continue in upcoming period, and more families from Causeni, Rascani and Sangerei districts will benefit from smoke detectors.
