Chisinau, 25 May /MOLDPRES/ – Over 1,800 copies of books have been donated today by the Embassy of Italy in Chisinau to the National Library of Moldova (BNM).

Attending the event, Ambassador of Italy to Moldova, Valeria Biagiotti, told the agency that this generous gift, which includes over 1,600 titles, comes from Roberta Alberotanza, former director of the Italian Cultural Institute with a postmortem dedication to his girlfriend, the journalist Elena Doni, and the transport of books from Italy to Moldova was provided by the Chamber of Commerce of Italy – Moldova.

"Considering that Italy is the second largest country in the world by the number of Moldovans and that there are so many (around 2,500) Moldovan students in Italy, it becomes fundamental to use every opportunity to promote mutual knowledge. And there is no better way than the book. Related to it, we will complete the vast amounts of Italian books, which cover different areas, from history to literature, from linguistics to art history," said Valeria Biagiotti.

The Italian official expressed confidence that the books would be read by a lot of people, especially them to be useful to the Italians living in Moldova, which would find the novels making the history of the Italian literature, students of Theoretical Lyceum Dante Alighieri, students of the State University of Moldova (USM) and Pedagogical State University Ion Creanga (PSUIC), children returning with their mothers to Moldova and being able to find a book fund adapted to their exigencies and to those ones willing to deepen their knowledge of the Italian language.

At her turn, Director of BNM, Elena Pintilei, thanked the Italian Embassy in Moldova, mentioning that "these books will certainly find their reader and constitute a bridge between the Moldova and Italy." At her turn, Roberta Alberotanza said that in October, during the week of Italian culture, she would come up with a new batch of books.
