Chisinau, 25 May /MOLDPRES/- The Joint Control Commission (JCC) convened in Bender city on 24 May. The Moldovan delegation introduced Lieutenant-Colonel Veaceslav Veste as military observer of Moldova, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.

Subsequently, JCC heard the weekly report on the situation in the Security Zone, unveiled by the Joint Military Command.

According to a press release by the Bureau for Reintegration, “during the debates on the report, it was set that in Bender city the unilateral activity is going on so-called “Transnistrian mobile border posts, despite that at the recent meeting of the JCC, the delegation of Moldova brought to the attention of the parties the need to exclude their placement in Bender city, declared as a settlement with increased security status”.

“Interim co-head of the Transnistrian delegation to the commission,  Vasile Vakarciuk, said that such mobile posts are periodically operating in Bender city and the Security Zone, aiming at controlling and checking up certain operative information and taking action on them”, the communiqué said.

The Moldovan delegation believes that such actions not only cause increased tensions in the region, but also undermine peacekeeping mechanisms and once again argue for the need to set up an international monitoring and inspection mission in the Security Zone.

In this context, the Moldovan delegation presented to all the JCC components an address condemning the unilateral installation by the Transnistrian forces of the mobile stations of “border guards and customs officers” in Bender and points out that their stay in the area of responsibility of the Joint peacekeeping forces is unlawful.

On the same day, under the leadership of the Russian delegation, an unordinary meeting of the JCC was held to consider the issue on ensuring security near the bridge over the Dniestre river between Gura Bacului and Bacioc settlements. The talks again did not lead to a consensus, and a decision was take to conduct further consultations.

The next commission meeting will take place on 31 May 2018.
