Chisinau, 05 June /MOLDPRES/ – The Third World Wine Tourism Conference of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) will be held on 06 – 07 September 2018 in Moldova. The Cabinet of Ministers approved today draft law to ratify Agreement between Government and UNWTO on Conference Organisation, signed in Madrid on 20 April 2018.

Wine tourism in Moldova is at an early stage but surely in development. At present, about 20 wineries in the country provide tourist services to foreign visitors. Annually, this tourism sector diversifies its products. In the winery are organised cultural events, cooking workshops, wine grapes are picked by tourists, personalised wine is produced for tourists.

Moldova organized and hosted the 61st Meeting of UNWTO Regional Commission for Europe, held on 05 – 07 June 2017. It had a strong resonance in all participating countries and contributed to promotion of our country in quality tourist attraction.

South Africa and Spain also expressed their interest in hosting the World Wine Tourism Conference for 2018, but it was eventually chosen Moldova. The jury noted that Moldova is a tourist destination not yet fully covered, to be supported by the World Tourism Organisation. Also, Moldova has priority being first country to be included on the list, on proposal of the former Secretary General of the World Tourism Organisation, Taleb Rifai, which noted good organisation of UNWTO Regional Committee Meeting for Europe.

During the conference, will be performed actions to promote wine tourism: field news, workshops, sightseeing, exchange of experience.
