Equipment used to be energy labelled in line with EU standards in Moldova

Chisinau, 4 July /MOLDPRES/ - The products with energy impact, used by enterprises and residents, will be energy labeled, in conditions when the energy performances of the equipment used are under the acceptable level. The government today approved regulations on the requirements for the energy labeling of three classes of products.

Under the document, decision-makers established the energy performances requirements for aspirators, installations for heating rooms, installations for heating water and other equipment from these classes.

The Economics and Infrastructure Ministry has said that the energy labeling was necessary in the situation when Moldova depended on foreign resources at a level of 83 per cent (in 2015), the energy intensity is high (three-fold against those 28 EU member states) and the generation is relatively inefficient (cumulative efficiency is estimated at 68 per cent). The problems are intensified against the background of losses of transportation and distribution, as well as of the one of inefficient consumption by the end consumer.

In this case, the endowment of households with products with enhanced energy impact leads to the increase of the invoice for electricity, as well as enhances the dependence of the imports in these sources. Cumulatively, by 2020, the consumption estimated as a result of the use of domestic appliances will double.

The enhancement of the requirements for the labeling of goods will lead to the improvement of products’ quality, reducing the energy consumption and cutting the CO2 emissions. The use of inferior class apparatus, as a rule, implies a small payment in the beginning and a big invoice during their life. At the same time, the observance of the requirements of informing consumers by labels about the consumption of energy by apparatus put up for sale or rent, will put again the producers, importers and distributors of qualitative products within a loyal competition. A low price is always preferable and the price-quality ratio is ignored at present, especially in the lack of labels as information instruments.

The draft was worked out in the context of actions undertaken by the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry on adjusting Moldova’s legislation in the energy efficiency sector to the European Union’s one in the concerned field, as well as of observing the commitments taken by Moldova within the Association Agreement with EU.
