Romania stays principal trade partner of Moldova

Chisinau, 6 July /MOLDPRES/ - The exports of Moldovan goods to the European Union countries grew by 37.8 per cent in the first five months of this year against the same period of the year before and amounted to 747 million dollars. The weight of the Moldovan goods’ supplies to the EU market reached 67.9 per cent of all exports.   

Data by the National Statistics Bureau shows that, on the same period, the share of exports to the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was of 16.1 per cent, down by 0.2 per cent against January-May 2017. On the aforementioned period, the exports to this market amounted to 177.5 million dollars.   

Romania stays the principal trade partner of Moldova both in terms of exports and in imports. Since early 2018, goods worth over 280 million dollars have been exported to Romania. While the imports from this country stood at about 313 million dollars.  

Russia ranks second according to the commercial exchanges, with goods worth 90.3 million dollars exported to this country, down by 7.7 per cent. On the same period, Moldova imported goods from Russia amounting to 286 million dollars, up by 25 per cent against the same period of 2017.  

An expert of the Viitorul Institute for Development and Social Initiatives, Viorel Chivriga, has earlier said that, during four years after the singing of the Association Agreement with EU, the geographical directions changed entirely. Chivriga also said that the change of concept of Moldova’s commerce meant the choosing of safe markets, stable game rules, experience and technologies.
