Economics minister says Moldova to continue paying priority attention to programme with IMF

Chisinau, 12 July /MOLDPRES/ - The new head of the experts mission of the International Monetary Fund in Moldova, Ruben Atoyan, has reiterated the Fund’s willingness to further back the implementation of Moldova’s reforms agenda. The IMF official has made statements to this effect at a meeting with Economics and Infrastructure Minister Chiril Gaburici.  

The head of IMF experts’ mission, Ruben Atoyan, highlighted the progress made by Moldova in the financial and banking sector, improvement of the financial situation of commercial banks, as well as the economic policies promoted by the government.    

The economics and infrastructure minister said that Moldova appreciated the IMF experts’ support for strengthening and developing the financial and banking sector. “Our country will continue paying priority attention to the programme with IMF and will focus on the implementation of reforms. We make every effort to maintain the positive trend of the economic growth from 2017 – 4.5 per cent, increase of investments in Moldova’s economy, creation of new jobs, launch of social programmes meant to improve the citizens’ living standards,” Chiril Gaburici said.    

According to the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry, at the meeting, the officials also discussed the progress made in the implementation of the economic programmed backed by IMF, confirmed by the Fund’s Board, consolidation and development of the banking, energy and public finances sectors, as well as the reforms promoted by the government.   

The meeting took place in the context of taking over by Ruben Atoyan of the mandate of the head of the IMF experts’ mission in Moldova from Ben Kelmanson.
