Applicants to be able to buy sets of coins with four new coins of 1, 2, 5 and 10 MDL

Chisinau, 15 October /MOLDPRES/- The National Bank of Moldova announced today it decided to issue sets of coins with 1, 2, 5 and 10 lei for representation, numismatic or as a souvenir. The BNM approved the decision "on numerous requests from public institutions, trade organizations, travel agencies and citizens".

Before placing order for production, the central bank requires potential buyers to indicate quantities they would like to buy, no contractual obligation at this stage. They are asked to send a preliminary application to the email address: operatiuni.numerar@bnm.md until 31 October 2018.

Sets can be purchased from the BNM by government institutions, and by other willing persons, businesses or individuals - from licensed banks.

Besides the four coins featured on the obverse and reverse, the set includes a description of the technical specifications and safety features, and their legend in Romanian and English.

According to the National Bank, the new coins were set following a comprehensive economic study on the use of cash in Moldova and internationally. The National Bank of Moldova held public consultations last summer and autumn with independent experts, local and central authorities, representatives of the business and banking environment, who confirmed the conclusions of the BNM study.
