Prosecutors conduct searches at several transport registration offices

Chisinau, 6 November /MOLDPRES/- Prosecutors today conducted over 20 searches at several transport registration offices and several vehicle testing stations.

Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Causes, Vitalie Busuioc, said that actions take place in the capital and southern part of the country, in a criminal case for abuse of office, making and using false documents.

“In 2017-2018, several civil servants of Public Service Agency set up a scheme of falsifying official documents on registration of means of transport and technical testing. At the same time, the suspects appropriated money for paying taxes in the state budget. It is about tax for road use by vehicles in Moldova,” Busuioc said.

According to the prosecutor, about 500 cases of non-payment of the road use tax have been identified so far, with the appropriation of funds, causing a state budget loss of about one million lei. "During the criminal prosecution, the Public Service Agency's management worked with prosecutors to elucidate all the circumstances of the case," Busuioc said.

If found guilty, the suspects risk up to six years in prison for abuse of office and up to five years in jail for making and using fake documents.
