Chisinau, 09 November /MOLDPRES/ – Three localities in the centre of Moldova – Cioresti (Nisporeni), Dolna and Micleuseni (Straseni) have created rural tourism route: Dor de Codru, which was launched today at a symbolic gate in Cioresti. The route includes 20 destinations, located in picturesque places, secular encournas, agro-tourist hostels, with participation of craftsmen from the region.

The tourist route will increase the attractiveness of this region. A larger flow of tourists will encourage residents in the three communities involved to develop additional services and products, generating additional revenues. Therefore, many families will be able to provide decent income at home without having to leave abroad.

"Today we are not only witnesses to the launch of a new tourist route in Moldova but we are launching a functional engine that will bring economic incomes and opportunities for 6,000 citizens of three localities. This project is special because it reflects how remarkable results can be achieved throughout active involvement of natives in local development," said UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Permanent Representative to Moldova, Dafina Gercheva.

Creating route Dor de Codru is an initiative launched by local and native authorities with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) project: Migration and local development, funded by EU. For the development of this touristic route, the Swiss government has granted $50,000, local governments – about $22,000, and the natives have donated over $8,000.

"This project is fully in line with the strategic priorities of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in Moldova. The three communities have demonstrated that effective local governance can not take place without participatory planning and efficient local economic development," told at touring event, director of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in Moldova, Caroline Tissot.

Project: Migration and local development is part of a multi-annual intervention of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in Migration and Development which has been implemented in 2015 – 2018 in partnership with the Government of Moldova, local public authorities, local NGOs, private sector, population, including migrants from the target communities.

A total of 40 villages and cities across Moldova are part of the project (25 in Stage I and 15 in Stage II).
