Moldovan electoral body sets up those 51 councils of uninominal electoral districts

Chisinau, 21 December /MOLDPRES/ - The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) today set up those 51 councils of uninominal electoral districts for the parliamentary elections and the consultative referendum due on 24 February 2019.  

The councils of uninominal electoral districts are to elect, for their part, from their members, by secret vote, the head, deputy head and secretary, by observing the gender balance. Following this procedure, the councils will make public the information on the place (office), date and hour of receiving the documents on the registration of electoral contenders.  

At the same time, CEC entrusted the electoral councils with the creation of the polling stations till 19 January 2019 and of the electoral bureaus of the polling stations till 29 January 2019.

The parliamentary polls due next year will be held according to a mixed electoral system; the MPs are to be elected both on party lists and in uninominal districts. Also, on the election day, a consultative referendum will be conducted on cutting the number of lawmakers from 101 to 61 and MPs’ recalling from office, if they fail to properly fulfill their duties.
