Over 4,500 cases of violence against children reported by employees of education system

Chisinau, 30 January /MOLDPRES/- Over 4,500 cases of violence against children were reported by employees of the education system in the first half of the academic year 2018-2019.
The data were presented in the context of the International Day of Non-Violence in School, which is marked today in many countries in the world, including the Republic of Moldova.
According to the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, violence occurred in the family, school or other places and services in the community.
According to the report, most cases - 2156 refer to physical violence, 1163 - to emotional violence.
Also, 46 cases of labor exploitation and 22 suspected cases of sexual abuse were reported. During the same period, about 700 cases were referred to the child protection authorities, being suspected or identified as serious cases of abuse.
At the same time, the ministry reiterated the need for cooperation between central and local public authorities, educational institutions, teachers, parents, civil society and media, in order to ensure a safe educational environment for all children.
