Authorities of Moldova request Russia to give access to Moldovan citizens released from captivity

Chisinau, 12 February /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s delegation, detached to Moscow on 11 February, in order to provide needed assistance to the Moldovan citizens released from captivity in Afghanistan, Lionel Buruiana (born in 1982) and Mihai Crihana (born in 1965), as well as to carry out procedures necessary for their return to Moldova, for the time being have not got from the Russian authorities either access to these citizens or information on their place of stay, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.      

The only details got by the MAEIE representatives in discussions with some Moscow officials are that the two Moldovan citizens would not be in the custody of the Russian government, but in the one of a non-governmental organization.   

At present, Moldovan officials continue making efforts to meet the citizens released from captivity and start the procedures necessary for bringing them urgently to Moldova. In this respect, Moldovan officials contacted the organization pointed by the Russian government and the delegation members are expecting the permission to visit the Moldovan citizens. All logistic preparations have been made for the Moldovan citizens to be able to be brought to Moldova at any moment.   

It is worth mentioning that the MAEIE team who went to Moscow includes a physician who, immediately after being allowed access to the released Moldovan citizens, will assess their health condition and will provide needed assistance for them to come back home in the best conditions.
