Russian ambassador to Moldova summoned to Foreign Affairs Ministry

14:36 | 13.02.2019 Category: Official

Chisinau, 13 February /MOLDPRES/ - Russian Ambassador to Moldova Oleg Vasnetsov today was summoned to the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE), where he was handed a protest note in connection with the procrastination of giving access of the Moldovan delegation, which has stayed in Moscow since 11 February 2019, to citizens Lionel Buruiana and Mihai Crihan, recently released from captivity and carried to Russia’s capital, the MAEIE press service has reported.

MAEIE expresses perplexity that, despite the provisions and norms of the international law, established in the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, and well as the Moldovan-Russian Consular Convention, Russia’s authorities continue to procrastinate the access of the Moldovan delegation to the citizens of Moldova, refuse to provide information on the place of their stay, health condition and describes this attitude as a deliberate provocation which seriously jeopardize the bilateral relations.

At the same time, the Moldovan officials conveyed concern to the  Russian ambassador that this situation runs the risk of becoming dramatic, with inadmissible political interferences, through which certain political figures from Moldova would attempt to take advantage of it on political purposes.

In the discussion with the MAEIE officials, the Russian ambassador said the Moldovan citizens would be in the custody of a NGO and the government of Russia was not involved in this process.

In the context, MAEIE also informed that, in continuation, it would notify international institutions about the denying of access of authorities of Moldova to its citizens.
