Moldovan firemen warn citizens not to burn dry leaves, vegetation

Chisinau, 1 March /MOLDPRES/- During the last 24 hours, the employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) intervened to liquidate more than 56 outbreaks of vegetation.  In the context of the Yellow Wind Code issued by meteorologists, the firemen come with warnings to the population not to burn dry vegetation, as the fire may spread over large areas.

IGSU press officer Liliana Puşcaşu said that after the 56 fires, 194 hectares of land were affected.

"The most affected areas were recorded in Medeleni locality in Ungheni district, where seven hectares of vegetation burned, and six hectares in Călmăţui, Hincesti district. More than five hectares of dry grass were destroyed by flames in Cantemir, Gotesti, Gagauzia, Chirsovo village. At the same time, the firemen also intervened in Nisporeni, Causeni, Soroca, Edinet, Cahul and Taraclia districts. In the context of the Code issued by the State Hydrometeorological Service, firemen recommend compliance with fire regulations, especially when using open fire. Under low humidity and strong winds, people are urged not to ignite garbage, vegetation and dry stubble near forestry and dwelling areas to avoid large fires,” Puscasu said.

According to statistics, 212 fires occurred in Moldova from the beginning of 2019.
