Co-rapporteurs of Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe to visit Moldova

Chisinau, 19 July /MOLDPRES/ - The co-rapporteurs of the monitoring commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Egidijus Vareikis and Maryvonne Blondin, will pay a visit to Moldova on 21-24 July 2019.  

According to the parliament’s communication and public relations department, the goal of the visit is to collect facts about the latest political developments as to the work of the democratic institutions following the February 2019 parliamentary elections. The officials will take knowledge of the situation following the constitutional and political crisis from last June, measures taken in the fields of justice and fighting corruption, legislation and actions scheduled for the de-politicizing of justice and state institutions, developments in terms of the electoral framework.   

Under the agenda, the PACE co-rapporteurs will have meetings with Parliament Speaker Zinaida Grecianii, President Igor Dodon and Prime Minister Maia Sandu. 

The agenda also includes meetings with MPs of the juridical commission for rules and immunities, commission for control of public finances, commission for human rights and inter-ethnic relations. The co-rapporteurs will discuss with representatives of all parliamentary factions and the parliamentary delegation to PACE.  

The PACE officials will also have meetings at the National Anticorruption Centre, Constitutional Court, Central Electoral Commission, Court of Accounts, Superior Council of Magistracy and Superior Council of Prosecutors. The co-rapporteurs will also discuss with Deputy Prime Minister, Interior Minister Andrei Nastase, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicolae Popescu, Justice Minister Olesea Stamate. The PACE officials will also meet representatives of the diplomatic community and civil society’s organizations active in the sector of justice and fighting corruption.    

Egidijus Vareikis is MP in Lithuania, the European People’s Party Group, and Maryvonne Blondin is lawmaker of France, the Socialists, Democrats and Greens Group.
