Moldovan internal affairs ministry's employees donate blood for victims of road accidents

Chisinau, 01 August /MOLDPRES/ – More police officers, carabineri, firefighters and rescuers from all over Moldova will donate blood in the national campaign: MAI donates blood! MAI saves lives. It was initiated for the first time by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI), in support of road accident victims.

The campaign has been launched today in Chisinau and it will be organised in several localities in the north, south and centre of Moldova. At one of the specially arranged points in the capital, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Andrei Nastase, has come to donate blood this morning. The official has said that the purpose of the campaign is to help the medical system in Moldova to be able to provide support to the ones in need of blood transfusions.

The director of the National Blood Transfusion Centre (CNTS), Svetlana Cebotari, has said that the collected units will replenish the medical reserves of healthcare system and they will be available in the next period to provide hemotransfusion assistance to all patients which need blood transfusions. According to Svetlana Cebotari, any blood donation increases the degree of production of new cells, so immunity increases and decreases the risk of stroke.

The press officer of the General Inspectorate of Emergency Situations (IGSU), Liliana Puscasu, has announced that it is expected to donated blood by over 450 employees from the MAI subdivisions during the campaign.

Each donor will receive a food package. It contains products rich in protein, microelements and vitamins, specially calculated by nutrition specialists.

According to the Ministry of Healthcare, Labour and Social Protection's (MSMPS) information and media communication service, in Moldova, the needs of hemotransfusion therapy are fully covered, with over 70,000 donations being collected yearly, covering hemotransfusion treatment for about 21,000 patients. In 2018, the number of voluntary blood donations constituted 93.6 per cent of total number of donations.
