More political groups, mass media institutions sign code of conduct regarding election coverage of 20 October in Moldova

Chisinau, 22 August /MOLDPRES/ – Five political parties and three mass media institutions signed on Thursday, 22 August, the Code of conduct (CC) on carrying out and reflection of the electoral campaign at the new general and parliamentary local elections on 20 October 2019.

The document was signed at the headquarters of the Central Electoral Commission /CEC/ and it is a convention concluded between parties, social – political organisations, electoral blocks, as well as mass media institutions on the way of conducting and reflecting electoral campaign that excludes damage of dignity and image of electoral competitors.

The CC aims to ensure: a fair electoral campaign, under conditions of equal competition; objectively informing voters about electoral processes; free political participation in electoral campaign; respecting dignity of participants in electoral campaign; creating a climate of trust and mutual respect between signatories in election campaign.

Each signatory of CC in electoral campaign will be based on the following principles: respecting the norms of electoral legislation and provisions of present CC; informing voters correctly about signatories and their political platforms; respecting the right of voters to participate in vote based upon their own beliefs and obtained info; observance of principle of equal opportunities, including in the aspect of gender dimension and respect for equality for persons with disabilities; avoiding intimidation and obstruction of free speech act; avoiding corruption by any means and in any form of voters.

At the local elections on 20 October 2019, it will be elected 898 mayors and 11580 local councilors, out of which 1,108 district/municipal and 10,472 village and city ones. On similar day, the residents of the districts №№ 17, 33, 48 and 50 will be awaited at the polls to elect MPs.
