More organizations to be financed within project on development of local civil society in Moldova

Chisinau, 22 October /MOLDPRES/ - About 60 non-governmental organizations from various regions of Moldova will benefit from financial support on behalf of the European Union and Konrad Adenauer Foundation, within a project on development of the civil society locally. The winners of grants received certificates of confirmation at a festive ceremony held in Chisinau today.     

The beneficiaries of the first appeal of proposals of projects of the grants programme, Development of civil society locally in Moldova, were nominated by a commission made up of representatives of the EU Delegation in Moldova, Soros-Moldova Foundation, East-European Foundation, implementation partners, as well as members of the project team.   

“We encouraged the organizations intending to bring the change to contribute to the solving of problems in the settlements where they work. A responsible and active civil society is the guarantor of a country’s democratic development,” Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to Moldova Peter Michalko said.

According to the diplomat, the projects on problems of persons with disabilities, local development, environment’s protection, etc. had priority at the selection.

Due to the grants programme, 59 civil society’s organizations from Moldova, this year already, will have possibility to actively get involved in decision-making processes and working out policies, enhancing the responsibility of public institutions. “The proposals of projects selected for financings are to contribute to the development of the principles of good governance in Moldova,” the representative of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (Berlin), Stephan Malerius, said.       

The project, Development of civil society locally in Moldova, was launched in last April and in 2019-2021 will provide grants worth three million euros to civil society’s organizations which carry out their activity outside the Chisinau city. The project is implemented in partnership with the Foreign Policy Association, in the Central region, Association for Participatory Democracy, in South region, Expert-Grup Independent Analytical Centre, in the North region, Public Association Pro-Europa European Centre from Comrat, for the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia and Taraclia district.      

The project’s goal is to contribute to the development of the civil society locally in Moldova, which promotes and monitors the transparency and responsibility of public institutions, including in the implementation of the Moldova – EU Association Agreement.
