Chisinau, 21 November /MOLDPRES/ – The head of the Superior Council of Magistracy /CSM/, Dorel Musteata, has sent a letter to Parliament, on Thursday, 21 November, asking for 02 new members of the Council to be delegated from the law professors, in order to avoid blocking the activity of structure.
In the letter signed by Musteata, it is stated that, according to legal norms, the Parliament of Moldova, by decision №285, appointed as members of CSM for a term of 04 years the following law professors: Postu Ion, Timotin Mariana and Turcan Serghei.
Two of these have applied for other functions, for this reason it is necessary to delegate 02 new members to avoid creating quorum situations which, consequently, would cause a blockage of activity of CSM and the entire judicial system.
According to Constitution, CSM consists of 12 members. Its composition includes judges and legal professors, as well as the head of the Supreme Court of Justice /CSJ/, Minister of Justice (MJ) and General Prosecutor (PG) which are legal members. Three members of CSM from the law professors, openly and transparently selected by the Commission of legal issues, appointments and immunities of Parliament following a public contest, are elected by the legislature with the vote of the majority of MPs.
