Chisinau, 4 December /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldsilva forestry agency will propose more than 52,000 Christmas trees, of which 48,000 spruce firs and 3,700 – pines. At the same time, over 6,000 compositions of fir trees will be suggested. A larger number of trees will be offered by forest enterprises from Edinet, Calarasi, Chisinau, Tighina, Hancesti and Nisporeni.

The height of a Christmas tree varies between one and four metres. Upon request, the height can be even bigger. The most demanded are the conifers of about 1.5 metres, with over 23,000 trees with such a height prepared for sale. At the forest enterprises subordinated to the Moldsilva agency, the pine’s price begins from 56 lei per one metre. The spruce fir can be bought starting with a price of 44 lei for one metre and people opting for compositions are to pay 8 lei for one unit. The concerned prices, which began from 36 lei per one metre, increased against the previous years; yet, according to Moldsilva, “these are insignificant price increases, dictated by the market.”

In the case of cutting resinous trees, including spruce firs, pine, from the forest fund or other green areas, private people run the risk of being fined from 40 to 50 conventional units and legal entities – between 400 and 500 conventional units or punished with non-remunerated labour for the benefit of the community, according to the article 122, 124 of the Contravention Code, and payment of the damage caused through the illicit cutting of trees and plantations, according to the Forest Code.

Traditionally, on this period, decision-makers boost the guard and protection of woods; raids to the forest fund are systematically organized, with the involvement of employees of forest enterprises, along with the Inspectorate for the Environmental Protection and Police Inspectorates from the territory.

Contacted by MOLDPRES, sources from the Moldsilva agency said that, as a rule, employees of nurses cut fir trees depending on the ordered number. “The principal demanders are the state and private institutions which buy more; yet, private people buy Christmas trees as well. Anyway, the trees are cut when the sale and purchase contract is already signed. In this way, we avoid losses and the unused trees remain growing in nurses, waiting for other holidays,” the Moldsilva sources also said.

The sources added that, to maintain the Christmas tree fresh as much time as possible, it is good to pour sweetened water to the vessel where the tree is placed. At the same time, the Christmas tree is good to be held as far from heating sources as possible.
