Old – style Orthodox Christians celebrate religious holiday in Moldova

Chisinau, 13 December /MOLDPRES/ – Old – style Orthodox Christians celebrate Friday, 13 December, St. Andrew's Day. In folk tradition, this day marks the beginning of winter, being known in calendar of people under the name of Sántandra Cap – de – Iarna.

Name Andrei comes from Greek and means manhood, courage, will and fearless. On this day, all those bearing the name Andrei or derivatives of it celebrate their birthday.

St. Andrew's Day marks the beginning of the winter holiday season, which will continue with St. Nicholas and end with Boboteaza.
