Meteorologists forecast snowfalls for upcoming days in Moldova

Chisinau, 26 December /MOLDPRES/ – The winter comes into force, with noticeable cooling of weather conditions and snowfalls, which is expected, in much of territory of Moldova, commencing Friday, 27 December, the State Hydrometeorological Service’s (SHS) info and media communication service has reported.

According to meteorologists, the first serious snowfalls of this winter are expected in central and northern regions, being accompanied periodically by sunshine. Starting Saturday, 28 December, the snowfalls intensify, extending throughout Moldova.

During the reference period, the thermometre values vary ​​between – 02ºC – + 05ºC are expected during the day, and – 06ºC at night.

The specialists of SHS claim that in December, the precipitations are expected mainly in the form of rain (about 50 per cent of the norm). The amount of precipitation in the form of snow constitutes on average less than 20 per cent of monthly norm. The snow layer can be set anywhere after 05 December, but the term may vary from year to year. The average decadal thickness of the snow layer does not exceed 05 cm, although during the observation period of SHS, there is a case when the maximum thickness of the snow layer on the meteorological platforms reached up to 60 cm (01 December 1975, Cahul).

On it, the rescuers urge drivers to equip their vehicles for the season and winter tyres, and keep shovels, sand, warm clothes, a blanket and water supplies in trunk.

Also, it is recommended that people who choose to go a long way to keep the phone battery charged, and in case of risk they should call emergency service 112. Also, people are asked to avoid moving on portions where they hang branches and cables so as to avoid trauma.
