Hydrologists issue thin ice warning in Moldova

Chisinau, 27 December /MOLDPRES/ – The Hydrological Centre (CH) of the State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) has issued, on Friday, 27 December, a warning regarding the danger presented by the ice formations, created in the aquatic basins, following the cooling of weather conditions.

According to hydrologists, "as a result of weather conditions cooling, on 29 December – 02 January, on small rivers, watercourses and aquatic basins in Moldova, it will appear ice formations – ice on shore and fog, and ice bridge in some places".

The ice will be thin, walking on it presents danger, and in this context the rescuers warn population, especially amateur fishermen, not to venture yet to try winter fishing. Also, they caution parents, so as to prohibit minors playing by water sources.

Over upcoming days, the meteorologists forecast on average minimum –03ºC of frost at night, and up to +03ºC during the daytime, throughout Moldova. Also, there are expected snowfalls in Moldova.
