Chisinau, 3 January /MOLDPRES/- The decree for promulgation and the law on drinking water quality were published in the Official Journal of Moldova today.

The document establishes the quality monitoring process, the water quality conditions, as well as the authorities responsible for information and monitoring.

Under the draft, the parameters set should match the consumer tap water, the bottled drinking water, as well as the water used in the production process in the food enterprises. It must be clean, free of microorganisms, parasites or substances representing a potential danger to human health.

The public authorities will be responsible for the quality of the water. Thus, the National Agency for Public Health (ANSP) will monitor the quality of water at each stage of production, and the National Agency for Food Safety will monitor the quality of drinking water used by food companies and bottled water marketed.

Also, the sources that provide drinking water in rural areas will be subject to controls. The wells will be checked every three years by the territorial subdivisions of ANSP. If the laboratory analyzes show that the water does not meet the necessary conditions, its use for consumption will be prohibited.

In order to inform the citizens, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection will publish on the institution's website, every three years, the National Report on the quality of drinking water.

This law shall enter into force 12 months after its publication in the Official Journal of Moldova.
