Chisinau, 24 January /MOLDPRES/ - The Encyclopaedia of Contemporary Romanian Writers from Everywhere (in their own vision) was launched at the National Library of Moldova today. The event coincided with the Day of the Union of the Romanian Principalities.

The edition was coordinated by academician Mihai Cimpoi and the idea’s author and the project manager is poet Traian Vasilcau.

Contacted by MOLDPRES, academician Mihai Cimpoi said that the volume comprised 1,146 writers from more than 50 countries. ”The idea of this work is the unity of the Romanian cultural space. It includes writers who write in Romanian, no matter where they live – in Moldova, Romania, North Bucovina, in Serbia or in other regions with Romanian communities. The volume is described as an illustrative attached thing to the General Dictionary of the Romanian Literature. We have already orders in behalf of county libraries from Romania. I hope that the libraries from Moldova will order this book as well,” Mihai Cimpoi said.

For his part, Traian Vasilcau noted that he had worked on the encyclopaedia  during ten years and three months. “This book is not only my happiness, but also the one of the writers finding themselves in it. This is a unifying act of the Romanian culture, a representative mirror of most Romanian language writers from all over the world. It is from the first time ever that writers from Australia, France, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, United States and other countries find themselves in such a synthesis,” Traian Vasilcau stressed.

In the context, writer Claudia Partole said that this book was a mirror of the time. ”This is a great responsibility and a huge work,” Partole noted.

The volume appeared in 1,000 copies at a Chisinau-based publishing house.
