Chisinau, 7 February /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon, at a programme titled, Preşedintele răspunde (The president answers), has said that, on the next days, he would come up with a legislative initiative taking the fiscal burden from the citizens for the compensation of the “one-billion-dollars theft” from the banking system.

The head of state said that the stolen money must be returned to Moldova and the guilty persons must be imprisoned. “The process has started, several billion lei were returned. Some people were convicted, while the others were put on the wanted list,” Dodon said.

The president noted that, at present, the most important problem, the government is dealing with, was how this more than 20 billion lei, due to be paid by the citizens, be removed from the budget, so that people do not pay through taxes and duties. “A formula has been identified, following consultations with the foreign partners, including IMF, on how to presently compensate some of the spending for the recovery of the one billion dollars not at the expense of the citizens, but from other sources,” Dodon also said.

The head of state specified that a law was to be adopted, under which the debt worth over 20 million lei be cut by at least 5-6 billion lei. “While about 600-700 million lei was annually paid at the expense of the citizens, in order to return this billion, I think that we will manage to decrease this sum twice under a law, due to be approved next week,” the Moldovan president added.
