USAID to provide grants to ehance education level in Moldova's agriculture sector

Chisinau, 15 April /MOLDPRES/ - The High Value Agriculture Activity in Moldova (HVAA) Project of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has launched an appeal of applications for grants for the development and distribution of innovating solutions in the communication and mass media sector for Moldovan farmers who work in the value chains backed by HVAA: apples, stone fruits, table grapes, berries, honey and vegetables produced in open field. Applications may be submitted till 25 May.
The grants’ goal is to diversify the informing of farmers about the best practices and technologies, publicize the innovations in this field in Moldova and encourage young people to study agricultural specialties for the subsequent development of the career in the high value agriculture sector.
Through the HVAA project, the audiovisual companies, printed editions, media portals or consortiums of entities will be able to benefit from grants, if they achieve one or more of the following objectives through media initiatives. They should provide for the training of farmers on the best practices before the agricultural season and after the harvesting, within one or more value chains selected by the HVAA project, facilitating the process of adoption of new technologies by farmers; promotion of new technologies in high value agriculture, recently adopted in Moldova, etc.
Applicants are encouraged to creatively think about ways they will use to reach the wide public.
The HVAA project anticipates the providing of about 1.3 million lei for the financing of grant activities within this appeal. The sum of one grant may vary between 300,000 and 700,000 lei or this will depend on the activities proposed and the final negotiations.
The USAID High Value Agriculture Activity in Moldova (HVAA) Project in 2016-2021 is set to contribute to the development of the agricultural sector, in order to boost the economic growth and changes in rural settlements, thus improving the well-being of Moldova’s residents. To achieve this goal, the HVAA project, along with agricultural entrepreneurs, association of users of water for irrigation and other partners contribute to the enhancement of the profitability of each hectare of farmland, improving the quality and productivity of products cultivated, increasing the sales on the local and international markets and encouraging partnerships in the agricultural sector.
