Moldovan premier has meeting with Hungarian foreign affairs minister

Chisinau, 28 April /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today had a meeting with Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister of Hungary Peter Szijjártó, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

Peter Szijjártó came to Chisinau by a special flight organized by the Hungarian government, meant to deliver to Moldova a consignment of medical products needed to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

The consignment contains 100,000 medical masks and 5,000 protection costumes for medical employees involved in the management of the epidemiological situation.  

„We have agreed that we would undertake concrete actions to deepen the bilateral cooperation and we set concrete steps. The support provided by the cabinet of Hungary is important for our physicians in combating the epidemic. A friend in need is a friend indeed,’’ the prime minister said.      

Ion Chicu thanked the government of Hungary for the first support provided to Moldova in the European integration process and for the credit line of 100 million euros, meant for Moldovan companies, which is already operational.  

Peter Szijjártó confirmed the Hungarian cabinet’s determination to back Moldova in its European integration and in improving the public administration practices. Hungary will send to Moldova’s government two experts, who will assist the Finance Ministry and the Agriculture and Regional Development Ministry. The official stressed the focusing of both governments on national issues.   

Minister Szijjártó noted that Hungary would made efforts, so that Moldova receives assistance on behalf of the European Union, to overcome the consequences of the economic crisis triggered by the epidemic.  

On 12 March 2020, Prime Ministers Ion Chicu and Viktor Orban signed the Joint Declaration for Strategic Partnership between Moldova and Hungary in Chisinau. The Partnership’s goals are the deepening of the bilateral cooperation and backing Moldova’s European integration efforts.
