Several companies from Moldova, Japan met online

Chisinau, 21 May /MOLDPRES/- One hundred companies from Moldova and Japan, as well as national business support institutions have met on an online platform. The Business Bridges Japan-Moldova event was organized by the Organization for Development of Small and Medium Enterprises (ODIMM) and the Japan Foreign Trade Organisation (JETRO).

At the beginning of the event, Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Sergiu Railean said that Japan is an important economic partner for our country, as evidenced by the growing figures on bilateral trade and Japanese investment in Moldova.

In 2019, the foreign trade between Moldova and Japan amounted to 53.56 million dollars, and in January- March 2020, the total trade reached 13.2 million dollars.

"The use of tools to promote investment opportunities and export Moldovan products, such as B2B events, forums, exhibitions and economic missions, are very important for strengthening economic relations, increasing bilateral trade and developing new investment projects. I also want to express my gratitude for the assistance provided by the Japanese government through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for various bilateral cooperation projects in areas such as agriculture, education, culture, economy and environment, "he said.

For his part, Japanese Ambassador to Moldova Yoshihiro Katayama praised the importance of talks between entrepreneurs in the countries, which can boost the increase of the share of bilateral trade.

At the same time, Iulia Costin, general manager of ODIMM, reiterated the support for domestic companies in the efforts to access foreign markets. "In a short time, the Moldovan government will approve a new Program to support businesses with growth and internationalization potential, which will be implemented by ODIMM. Domestic small and medium enterprises are open to new challenges and are willing to take good practices from Japanese companies. There are many opportunities and potential that need to be used, " Costin said.

The event was held with the support of the Project Advising Moldovan government on Economic Policies, implemented by the Agency for International Cooperation of Germany (GIZ Moldova) with the financial support of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
