Moldovan foreign affairs minister, ambasadors of EU states tackle Moldova-European Union relations

Chisinau, 27 May /MOLDPRES/ - The present stage of the Moldova-EU relations and prospects for the advancement of the cooperation within the Eastern Partnership were discussed between Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Oleg Tulea and the EU member states’ ambassadors to Moldova and the Head of the EU Delegation at a videoconference today, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s press service has reported.     

During the discussions, the Moldovan diplomacy head informed about the authorities’ efforts aimed at boosting cooperation with EU and reiterated the cabinet’s firm commitment to promote the European integration process. ‘’Even on the period of the pandemic, the authorities continued working on subjects of enhanced importance on the agenda of the Moldova-EU dialogue. Presently, we foster our work to achieve tangible progress on the dimension of the reforms,’’ the Moldovan official said.   

Minister Tulea referred to a string of priority activity directions. In this respect, the minister stressed the boosting of efforts to investigate the bank fraud, including in the channel of international cooperation with key partners. As for the sector of policies of combating corruption, needed steps have been recently undertaken for Moldova joining the programme on evaluation of the Anticorruption Network of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. The participation in this programme will serve as additional instrument for monitoring and consolidation of the policies for prevention and combating corruption in Moldova. Also, the ambassadors were informed about the adoption of the law on sanctions for the offences dealing with the money laundering, adjusted to the European standards.

The minister noted that discussions were held on parliamentary platform on the draft law on the non-commercial organizations and this law is to be adopted in final reading in the near future. As to the process of justice sector reform, Oleg Tulea said that, on this subject, the authorities were maintaining an active dialogue with the Council of Europe and all concerned actors would be consulted. The minister informed also about other efforts, including as to the creation of a framework for assessing the work of the Audiovisual Coordination Council and Competition Council.     

Also, Minister Oleg Tulea touched upon the cooperation in the context of the Eastern Partnership, noting Moldova’s interest in ensuring an ambitious and strategic character to the cooperation within the Eastern Partnership. In this respect, the minister spoke out for agreeing upon a new string of goals, due to be approved at the next Summit of the Eastern Partnership.
