Foreign ministry provides some clarification on explosion in Beirut, Lebanon

Chisinau, 5 August /MOLDPRES/- With reference to information published in media on the explosion in Beirut, Foreign and European Integration Ministry makes the following statement:

On 4 August, Minister Oleg Țulea sent a message of compassion to his Lebanese counterpart, Charbel Wehbe.

He said: “On behalf of the Republic of Moldova, we convey condolences to bereaved families and speedy recovery of those injured in the Beirut explosion. "

The Moldovan Embassy in Ankara, concurrently accredited to the Lebanese Republic, is in contact with the competent authorities in Beirut to specify if there are no Moldovan citizens among the victims. According to information, there are no Moldovan citizens affected by the explosion. If necessary, Moldovan citizens in Lebanon can contact our diplomatic mission to email: ankara@mfa.gov.md or call the ministry’s Call Center.

Referring to information from the international press on the alleged membership of the ship in Beirut to the flag of the Republic of Moldova, MAEIE recommends consulting the Naval Agency that manages the register: bit.ly/3fBenG0

The ministry monitors the situation as a matter of priority and will provide updated information in the event of developments of public interest.
