Diaspora Day held in Moldova

Chisinau, 22 August /MOLDPRES/- "I apologize for our state not creating conditions to work at home." Prime Minister Ion Chicu made the statement today during the Diaspora Days, marked on 21-23 August. Chicu began his speech by apologizing to the citizens of our country abroad, away from home, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

He thanked the diaspora members for involvement in local development projects, expertise and other measures to promote the image of our country in the world, noting that the state continues to improve infrastructure in Moldova, without which the goal of returning Moldovans home remains only a dream. At the same time, he urged them to examine the possibility of developing businesses within the industrial platforms that are now being built in 16 districts of the country. "We want these spaces to be filled, first and foremost by you, dear fellow citizens who have left and accumulated knowledge, experience and can come with technology and capital," he said.

The government implements other projects aiming to create favorable conditions for the reintegration of our compatriots who have returned from abroad. Among them: Diaspora Engagement Hub - about 100 projects were financed each with 50 thousand non-refundable lei; Diaspora Home Succeeds DAR 1 + 3 - offers grants for APL to mobilize the potential of the diaspora to the development of the country, from the budget being allocated 10 million lei; Diaspora - Origins - Returns DOR program, intended for young people.

Over 130 diaspora representatives from 23 countries were connected online to the event. The Prime Minister answered the questions of our compatriots and presented the government's vision to use their experiences gained abroad to modernize Moldova. In this context, he noted the importance of technology in the agricultural sector and improvement of tax policy.

He came up with the initiative to create a multidimensional communication platform between the government and diaspora representatives who have proposals and initiatives to replicate effective practices from other countries in Moldova.

During the day, the participants registered at the event will discuss with Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Minister of Education, Culture and Research and other representatives of the government about the visions to turn to good account the diaspora experience.
