Moldovan PM participates in online meeting of Eurasian Intergovernmental Council

Chisinau, 9 October /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today participated, in videoconference format, in a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, hosted by Armenia. The event brought together the heads of government of the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.   

Among the subjects tackled, there was the aspect dealing with the measures applied in the states participating in the event, in order to ensure the sanitary and epidemiological safety, developments in the process of preventing the spread of COVID-19 on the territory of the participating states, as well as the social and economic situation amid the crisis triggered by the pandemic.  

In his speech, the PM stressed the importance paid by Moldova to strengthening the commercial and economic relations with EEU countries, developing the partnerships in fields of mutual interest in terms of economy and investments.    

„We are set to turn to good account the status of observer at the Eurasian Economic Union on the dimension of the commercial and economic cooperation and boosting the export, by turning to account the present potential in diverse sectors of the economy. I mean, first of all, the agriculture, industry, infrastructure, economy’s digitalization. Moldova intends to speed up the process of economy’s digitalization, which provides needed premises for modernizing the processes and enhance the economic attractiveness, promoting the digital services for the business environment, stimulating the enforcement of electronic trade instruments,’’ Ion Chicu said.    

The prime minister highlighted Moldova’s openness for the development of intergovernmental projects and participation in diverse initiatives of interest, in such sectors as: agro-industrial complex and ensuring the food security of the EEU countries. Therefore, the PM gave as example the project of the agro-industrial hub, AgroHub-Moldova, presented at the Moldovan-Russian business forum, which sees also the promotion of Moldovan farming products on international markets.  

The prime minister also underlined that Moldova regarded the extension of the cooperation with the Eurasian Development Bank as an additional opportunity to back the implementation of diverse national projects of interest.
