Chisinau, 7 December /MOLDPRES/ - The Diaspora Moldovans can make money transfers or can pay their services and invoices with the help of a digital application, Paynet – a virtual wallet  - which allows users transferring money home with low commissions, pay invoices or other related online taxes without paying at the bank.

The application, already available for more states of the world, was developed by the Paynet company, with the support of TEKWILL, within the Initiative of encouraging the private sector’s involvement. This is a project through which, with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Sweden, solutions of e-commerce are generated, useful for the society, as well as opportunities of attracting and training professionals in the IT sector.

„The idea behind the paynet.md application consists in the creation of an electronic wallet, in which the information about users’ bank cards is stocked, and any financial operation becomes easier and quicker to undertake. By using the application, Moldovans from all over the world can pay telephone invoices, public utilities, Internet and television, beauty and health products, credits and taxes to the state, etc. It is not necessary for them to go to bank, stay in queues. Now, they can make any operation at home, safely. So far, all transactions registered have been successful and we committed to adjust the options constantly, so that all users enjoy a pleasant experience,’’ the Paynet executive director, Călin Gryadcenco, said.

The security of the transactions is provided by a one-off code-password, transmitted by SMS and without the introduction of which the operations are not confirmed. Soon after the launch, the application was downloaded by about 90,000 Moldovans from diverse states: Moldova, Italy, Germany, etc. More than 5,600 fellow countrymen from Diaspora have become its users and about 100,000 lei was transferred through it, a press release of the project reads.

The application is one of those ten private initiatives backed within the Initiative of encouraging the private sector’s involvement by TEKWLL, with the support of USAID and Sweden. The financial support of up to 25,000 dollars was available for the companies in the IT field, covering about 50 per cent of the initiative’s entire cost. Those who proved that their solutions can produce impact on market, as well as that they have a proper potential of the implementation team benefited from this support. The initiative is meant to reconfirm one of the strategic commitments of the project – to contribute to the society’s digitalization, as well as to the increase in the number of specialists in the field, improvement of the human capital’s quality and progress of the IT industry, in general.

According to the International Organization for Migration, over 25 per cent of the families from Moldova receive money from relatives who work abroad and almost a half of them fully depend on remittances. In 2019, the personal remittances amounted to 1.3 billion dollars.
