Moldova suspends passenger flights to, from United Kingdom

Chisinau, 21 December /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova suspends all passenger flights to and from the United Kingdom as of 23 December 2020, at 00:00, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported. 

The decision today was approved by the National Extraordinary Public Health Commission (CNESP), in order to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus strain, identified in the United Kingdom. The information confirmed by the public health authorities from the United Kingdom and the World Health Organization (WHO).  

Thus, beginning with the tomorrow midnight, Moldova will cease the regular passenger flights, as well as the charter passenger flights with the United Kingdom.  

At the same time, starting from 23 December at 00:00, the arrivals of passengers  from the United Kingdom, with stopover, will be banned. Thus, CNESP approved the interdiction for air operators to take onboard passengers coming to Moldova with stopover from the United Kingdom.

The General Inspectorate of Border Police is asked to boost, at the state border crossing points, the measures of public health for the prevention and control of the COVID-19 infection. Also, the public order authorities are asked to foster the supervision of the observance by private people and legal entities of the measures of prevention and control of the COVID-19 infection, especially the regime of people’ self-isolation.  

The non-observance of the public health measures, set forth in the present Decision, represents danger for the public health and will serve as reason for calling the guilty people to contravention/criminal account. CNESP recommends that media representatives inform the public about the need to strictly observe the measures of prevention and control of the COVID-19 infection.
