Chisinau, 2 February /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today paid a working visit to the central Straseni town, where she had more meetings with mayors from 30 settlements, the leadership of the Straseni District Hospital, as well as with about 40 entrepreneurs from this district, the presidential press service has reported.

The head of state discussed with local authorities the need to improve the living standards of the residents from towns and villages, the way the Presidency can help the mayors to work for people. ‘’Many of the mayors are angry on the relation with the government and parliament, especially on the providing of funds according to political criteria. Such practices hinder the development of our communities. On the period when I was at the government, I insisted that the resources are distributed according to the population’s needs and not in line with the mayor’s political colour,’’ the Moldovan president stressed.

At the same time, Maia Sandu was impressed by the local authorities’ openness for modernization and by the projects implemented for the development of the Straseni town. ‘’In the context when the European Union on this period plans financial assistance for the next seven years, we will do our utmost to persuade the European partners to increase the resources for our country. The infrastructure projects, on settlements’ supply with water and sewerage costs much, but they are essential for our communities. The direct assistance to such projects is the subject which I discuss at all meetings with the European partners,’’ the head of state said.

At the today’s visit, Maia Sandu met business people from the Straseni district, in order to discuss problems they face. The entrepreneurs demanded clarity in the legislation and fiscal procedures. They noted that the political problems and the non-functional justice hit their relations with business partners from abroad and asked for support to access cheaper sources of crediting for investments and procurements of equipment. In the context, the head of state informed the entrepreneurs about the discussions held in Brussels, where she asked for support and financing programmes for the small business and Moldovan farmers. ‘’I am sure that the domestic instruments must be adjusted, in order to meet the needs of entrepreneurs from Moldova and the funds available should be distributed correctly. Also, the de-blocking of the foreign relations will open more channels of financing for regions, - resources from which Moldova’s citizens will benefit directly,’’ the president underlined.

Also today, Maia Sandu, along with the adviser on health issues, Ala Nemerenco, visited the Straseni District Hospital, where 37 patients infected with Covid-19 are presently hospitalized. The head of state thanked the physicians for the dedication and courage with which they do their job in the conditions of the pandemic crisis. ‘’The Presidency’s team does its best, in order to have quicker access to enough doses of anti-Covid-19 vaccine from various producers, so that we cover Moldova’s needs, as well as supply the medical system of the country with protection equipment, specialty medical apparatus, tests and funds for carrying out the vaccination campaign. We hope that, following the launch of the vaccination process, we will be able to return to normal,’’ Maia Sandu said.

The president informed the hospital’s staff that, after a long period of blockage, the Presidency had de-blocked the communication with the U.S. Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, which confirmed willingness to provide Moldova with financial support worth 100,000 dollars for anti-Covid-19 needs. Also, Maia Sandu discussed with Straseni physicians the irregularities in the system, such as the disparities in paying of salaries, non-transparent and unfair procurements. Maia Sandu gave assurances that she would provide them with needed support, so that their interests and needs are heard and the medical system becomes priority for Moldova.
