Chisinau, 11 February /MOLDPRES/ - The European Union and the Regional Bureau for Europe of the World Health Organization (WHO) have informed that they would work together, in order to support the delivery and distribution of the anti-COVID-19 vaccines and organizing the process of vaccination in Moldova.

The project on delivery and distribution will be financed by the European Union and implemented by WHO and will fully cover all phases – from the vaccine’s delivery up to its administration.

The project will be implemented by WHO for a three-year period; this is part of an initiative financed by EU worth 40 million euros, in order to back six countries of WHO’s European region in the preparation, distribution and monitoring the process of launching the anti-COVID-19 vaccines in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

„In the spirit of the European solidarity, EU backs Moldova in the process of preparing and distribution of the anti-COVID-19 vaccine. A process of vaccination will save lives, representing a long-lasting response to the pandemic. EU once again proves that it is close to the Moldovan people with concrete and impact support,’’ Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova Peter Michalko said.

The European Union also works to support the launch of the vaccination campaign in February, along with other international parties. The vaccines which are to be supplied through the COVAX platform – part of the first assistance provided to Moldova - were authorized by the European Medicines Agency in the European Union. EU is the biggest contributor to the COVAX platform with 853 million euros.
