Startups from Moldova to be able to easier access foreign investments

Chisinau, 12 February /MOLDPRES/ - The startups from Moldova will become more visible internationally and will be able to easier attract investments. And this after the Startup Moldova programme - part of the TEKWILL programme - has recently become member of Startup Genome – organization which provides services of research and consultancy in over 38 states, in order to elaborate country policies, strategies of innovation and acceleration of the ecosystem of startups.
Through this cooperation, Moldova consolidates its global connection and opens more opportunities for entrepreneurs with businesses based on innovations: exchange of experience and expertise with the international community, enhanced visibility at the global level, platforms of communication with other specialists from all over the world, attraction of potential financing sources, etc. The development of technological entrepreneurship in Moldova is one of the priority directions of the TEKWILL project, backed by development partners – United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Sweden.
In 2020, Moldova for the first time ever was included in the report on analysis of the ecosystem on starting startups, carried out by Startup Genome – one of the most complex and important researches in the field. The electronic trade has constantly grown in Moldova during years, with by more than 12 per cent of the Moldovans making virtual purchases in 2019 against the year before. The COVID-19 pandemic sped up this tendency, leading to a 30-per cent increase in the online procurements in 2020. This is due including to the investments of international partners USAID and Sweden from the previous year for the development of this sector.
The Startup Moldova national programme is part of the TEKWILL Project, implemented by the National Association of Companies in the Information Technologies and Communications (ITC) Sector, with the financial support of USAID and Sweden. Tekwill was set up in 2017 as Centre of Excellence of the ITC sector in Moldova, the main goal of which was to adjust the field to the current market requirements.
