Exhibition of master photographer inaugrated at Chisinau-based museum

Chisinau, 17 February /MOLDPRES/ - An exhibition of photos titled, Nomad In Iran, by master photographer Aurel Cepoi, was inaugurated at the National Art Museum of Moldova today.    

The event is occasioned by the publication of the volume, The Last and the Lost, which can already be found in bookshops.  

Contacted by MOLDPRES, the director of the aforementioned museum, Tudor Zbarnea, said that the exhibition comprised 27 works. ‘’While travelling in Iran, the author entered the local nomad tribes. These are not only documentary photos, but also art ones,’’ Zbarnea noted.   

For his part, the director of the Cartier publishing house, Gheorghe Erizanu, said that while being in Iran, Aurel Cepoi had slept in tents of nomad tribes. ‘’He was in ten tribes, of which five ones are nomad. Only one tribe is of Arab origin and the rest ones are of Turkic origin. The album, The Last and the Lost, contains 111 pictures, exactly the number of steps at the entrance into Persepolis – a holy place for Iranians, no matter the ethnic group, political preferences, place of residence, droughts or the phases of the nuclear programme,’’ Erizanu noted.  

Aurel Cepoi was born in the Ochiul Alb village, northern Drochia district, on 25 July 1968. In 1992, he graduated from the Chisinau-based Poly-technical Institute and in 2016 – the New York Institute of Photography. He makes pictures out of passion, preponderantly projects with documentary impact. In 2016, he organized an exhibition on charity purposes about the Central Asia. The money was donated to the Tony Hawks Centre for the rehabilitation of children with disabilities. He is laureate of the awards of The Independent Photographer, Tokyo Prize Awards, Australian Prize Awards and LensCulture.     

”The Last and the Lost. The transition of Iranian nomads into disappearance” is the first author album by Aurel Cepoi.

The exhibition will be open till 7 March.
