Humanitarian aid provided by Romania in fighting COVID-19 reached Chisinau

Chisinau, 19 February /MOLDPRES/- Humanitarian aid offered by Romania in fighting COVID-19 reached Chisinau today.

During the ceremony for the reception of the medical equipment, worth 2.3 million euros, President Maia Sandu, acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Bogdan Aurescu, EU Ambassador to Chisinau Peter Michalko delivered speech.

"We are grateful to Romania for this help, which will reach directly the hospitals of the Republic of Moldova. It is a gesture of friendship and solidarity. We are also grateful for the help provided to the agricultural sector. We look forward to getting the vaccine, because that's the only way we can get rid of this burden. We count on the support of all European countries ", said Maia Sandu.

In his speech, acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi thanked Romania for the constant support provided to our country for the last 30 years. "The efficiency and solidarity shown to us by our EU partners is exceptional. The impressive batch of equipment will allow our medical staff to cope with this problem ", said Ciocoi.

For his part, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Bogdan Aurescu said that the humanitarian aid is a sign of friendship with Moldova, which remains a reliable partner. "Romania considers the Republic of Moldova a foreign policy priority. We are and we want to be a reliable partner. We are glad Moldova has become a viable partner for the EU. The only way to prosperity for Moldova is the European path. Romania will continue the projects in Moldova in order to bring it closer to the EU and will make joint efforts to get promised vaccines ", he said.

The batch of equipment offered by Romania comprises 1.5 million surgical masks, 100 thousand FFP3 masks, 100 thousand overalls and 100 thousand disposable gloves, all worth 48 million lei.
