Another meeting of Joint Control Commission fails over lack of consensus on agenda

18:25 | 04.03.2021 Category: Official

Chisinau, 4 March /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s delegation again tackled the issue on the citizens kidnaped in the Camenca district by armed representatives of the Tiraspol power wielding forces at a weekly meeting of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) from 4 March 2021, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.

The subject remains topical, given that two of the citizens continue to be illegally detained and the constitutional authorities’ calls to set them free were refused, as well as from the perspective of the entrance of militarized structures in the Security Zone, which are out of the control of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces.

During the discussions, Tiraspol’s delegation gave no explanation on the subject, trying to insinuate that this would not be within the competence of the Commission.

Thus, the agenda proposed by Moldova’s delegation was rejected by the Transnistrian side; therefore, the opening of the meeting was not possible.

The systematic blocking of the JCC’s work, practiced by the Transnistrian delegation months in a row, hinders the consideration of more important subjects concerning the situation in the Security Zone and triggers distrust in the JCC’s efficiency.

Nevertheless, Moldova’s delegation will further promote on the agenda of the Joint Control Commission the entire spectrum of problems artificially appeared in the Security Zone, through the defiance by the Transnistrian side of the basic documents of the peacekeeping operation.

Moldova’s delegation to JCC reiterates that the problem of human rights was fundamental, priority and cannot be ignored within the mechanism of the peacekeeping mission.
