Chisinau, 12 March /MOLDPRES/- President Maia Sandu discussed today online with 70 mayors from all over the country, members of the Congress of Local Authorities of Moldova, and the leadership of CALM. The main issues of discussion were the pandemic crisis and the problems facing local public authorities, the presidential press service has reported.
"We talked about the health crisis we are in and the increasingly critical health situation - we need the involvement of everyone, including the local public administration, to stop the spread of the infection and save lives. We emphasized the need to ensure access to the vaccine for citizens and we noted the efforts to bring vaccine to the Republic of Moldova faster and enough ", said Maia Sandu.
Sandu pinted out that the involvement of mayors is extremely important, as they are the ones who communicate daily with the people and those in whom the citizens have great trust. At the same time, she urged them to talk to the inhabitants of their communities, to find ways to convince people to respect safety measures, supervise the implementation of restrictions and help in the vaccination process that can save lives.
The head of state also approached the problems of APL that have remained unresolved for a long time. "Often, the local public administration is used for narrow party purposes. The Republic of Moldova needs a responsible Parliament and Government to support the communities, to help their development and modernization, not to use them in their own interest ",she said.
Sandu said that now the most important thing is to make every effort to protect people's lives, while reiterating the essential role of local public administration. "We must work together to stop the pandemic," the head of state concluded.
