Environmental NGO forum held in Chisinau

Chisinau, 24 March /MOLDPRES/- Forum of environmental non-governmental organizations in our country, 2021 edition is held online on 23-26 March. The event aims at boosting cooperation in the associative sector to protect the environment and promote environmental rights.

According to Ghenadie Iurco, State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment (MADRM), the forum gives the opportunity to review achievements in environmental protection and research new challenges and solutions through an open dialogue between civil society and public administration authorities responsible for the protection of the environment and natural resources.

"The cooperation of the central authority in environmental protection and natural resources with environmental NGOs is an important tool for raising public awareness of the need to protect the environment, reduce and prevent pollution, and to train in the development and adoption of environmental decisions. Achievements in environmental management are related to promoting the strategic and legislative framework. Environmental NGOs have an active involvement in drafting decisions and normative acts, are informed and involved throughout the decision-making process with reference to the development of the environmental impact assessment procedure carried out for projects of planned economic activities that may have a significant impact on the environment ", he said.

The 2021 edition of this forum is dedicated to the role of NGOs in achieving national priorities in environmental protection, focusing on several topics that will be addressed in thematic workshops. These include: the dynamics of environmental quality in Moldova during the last 10 years; the effects of institutional reform on the environment; the progress of the implementation of the Association Agreement in the middle chapter; water resources management; extension of protected natural areas; regionalization of the country through environmental issues; environmental taxes; the Dniester problem and the effects on the country's development; sustainable energy; ecological information and education.

The event is a communication platform that brings together representatives of civil society, central and local public authorities, donors and other structures interested in ensuring a protected environment and promoting the rational use of natural resources, in accordance with the European integration vector of the Republic of Moldova. The Environmental NGOs Forum is organized by the EcoContact Public Association in partnership with the National Council of Environmental NGOs and with the support of Sweden.
