Chisinau, 21 April /MOLDPRES/ - Opportunities of investments in Moldova today were discussed with potential Swiss investors, at an online webinar titled, Business Bridges Switzerland – Moldova. Over 70 companies from Switzerland brought together on this platform and about 40 Moldovan companies participated in the B2B meetings, the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry (MEI) has reported.
According to MEI, the goal of the event was to inform Swiss entrepreneurs about the investment opportunities in Moldova. In this respect, public institutions’ representatives unveiled conditions for the carrying out of businesses and facilities provided to investors in various sectors of the national economy.
„Switzerland is an important economic partner for Moldova and we can certainly consolidate a more dynamic cooperation, ensured by the volume of trade and bilateral investments. In 2020, Moldova’s foreign trade with Switzerland amounted to 95.91 million dollars. As for the investments, 107 companies with Swiss capital work in Moldova. According to the value of the capital invested, the Swiss Confederation ranks ninth among the principal investors in Moldova. In the context, we encourage foreign investors to take advantage of all opportunities provided by: Moldova IT Park, Free Economic Zones, Industrial Parks and Multifunctional Industrial Platforms,’’ the secretary general of the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry, Lilia Palii, said.
Besides the present bilateral economic agreements, such as the agreement on mutual promotion and protection of investments, agreement on the avoidance of the double taxation and the taxes on income and capital, or the agreement on commercial and economic cooperation, MEI initiated the negotiation of an agreement on free trade with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries, which will offer more openness and flexibility at the bilateral and multilateral levels.
„It is important that we highlight that the free trade agreements with EU, central European Free Trade Agreement countries, Commonwealth of Independent States countries and Turkey allow companies operating in Moldova to have access to almost one billion of potential consumers. I am firmly sure that this event is a good opportunity to further develop the economic partnership between our countries, as with a common vision and collective action, we can achieve major results,’’ Lilia Palii added.
