Moldovan linguist, publicist would have turned 85 today

Chisinau, 5 May /MOLDPRES/- Linguist, professor and publicist Ion Dumeniuc, holder of the Order of the Republic would have turned 85 today.
He worked as an assistant, lecturer and professor at the Department of Romanian Language and the Department of General and Romance Linguistics at the State University of Moldova. He collaborated in the elaboration of textbooks and teaching materials for higher education.
He carried out extensive research. He studied the problems of sociolinguistics and contrastive analysis of languages, problems of lexicon, culture of oral communication.
He is the author of about 150 articles, specialized studies and textbooks. Participant with papers and communications at congresses, symposia, university, interuniversity, regional, union and international scientific conferences. He was director of the State Department of Languages (1991).
Ion Dumeniuc's name is named after a street in the Ciocana sector of Chisinau. He was awarded the honorary title of public education, the Order of the Republic and the Labor Glory Order. He died on 3 November 1992 in Chisinau.
