Chisinau, 7 May /MOLDPRES/- A project to study the necropolis in Comrat was set up and launched by Maria Marunevici Scientific and Research Center in Gagauzia, at the initiative of a group of volunteers, the regional press has reported.

The idea of this project was determined by the interest of the residents who want to know information about the old graves. "It is an important and necessary project. I saw on the internet some publications about the graves from the cemetery in Comrat and I decided this initiative must be approached at a professional level ", Maria Marunevici Center director Irina Constantinova told gagauzinfo.md.

The group of researchers includes specialists from the Gagauz autonomy, employees of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, volunteers. "Residents of Comrat will find out where and which of their relatives are buried in the city cemetery. This is currently a problem - many graves are anonymous. At the same time, we want to find out what famous personalities are buried here, in order to immortalize their names, including them in the local history ", said one of the volunteers.

For a start, a plot of land with more than 60 graves will be researched, and the data will be included in an electronic database.
