16:39 | 01.06.2021 Category: Official

Chisinau, 1 June /MOLDPRES/ - Acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi today conveyed a message on the occasion of the EU Green Week, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The message reads:

„For the second year in a row, Moldova joins the European community on the carrying out of activities dedicated to the EU Green Week. This event is an extra opportunity to rethink our relation with the environment, to show a more conscious attitude towards each form of life surrounding us.

I want, on this occasion, to thank Mr. Sinkevicius, European Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, who conveyed the greeting message on the occasion of the EU Green Week, at an invitation by Moldova.

The pandemic we are going through reminded us including about the value of the nature and the urgency to protect it, about the intrinsic connection between a clean and prosperous environment and our own health.

Presently, we are more than ever vulnerable to the environmental threats, facing not only the phenomenon of climate changes, but also the challenges of ensuring a post-pandemic sustainable recovery. Namely for these reasons, our collective responsibility becomes ever greater in advancing on the way of a harmonious and sustainable development.

The quality of the environment does not stop at the state’s borders and an authentic ecological transformation is carried out only through joint efforts. In this respect, Moldova continues to remain a good will partner within the international dialogue platforms dedicated to the environment and climate actions.

We are with the global community in the actions of conservation of the biodiversity, reducing the greenhouse gas emissions, sustainable development of the water resources and preventing the pollution with chemical substances.

Thus, Moldova joined all international treaties in the field of climate change, such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Kyoto Protocol and more recently the Paris Agreement.

Through the ratification of these international acts, our country recognized the importance of the climate changes in the global context and, especially, assumed ambitious commitments of reducing the greenhouse gas emissions.

Recent data shows that we have managed to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions by 69 per cent against 1990.

The most significant reductions of the emissions were recorded in agriculture and the sector of producing the electric and thermal energy. By 2030, Moldova committed to unconditionally reduce the greenhouse gas emissions by 70 per cent against 1990, in order to bring its contribution to the Paris Agreement.

We will also bring our contribution to the good carrying out of the United Nations Climate Change Conference, due in Glasgow in 2021.

The subject of the edition of the EU Green Week from this year is the ‘’zero pollution’’ goal.

It is contained also among the environment priorities of Moldova, being also provided for in the Environment Strategy and a string of sectoral documents on the protection of waters, soil and air. The provisions of the Moldova-EU Association Agreement in the environment and climate actions sector seriously contributes to the fulfillment of these priorities, getting Moldova more and more closer to the European standards and good practices.

We expect an active cooperation with the European Union in the carrying out of the objectives of the European Green Deal through the public policies adjusted, as well as concrete projects, such as EU for Environment.

Dear citizens, dear friends,

At present, more than ever, it is necessary that we everybody learn taking care of the place which is home for us, joining around a common goal – to live in a clean and sound environment.

I have so far spoken about our global objectives; yet, their carrying out depends very much on each of us, locally.

We will succeed, if we observe simple rules:

- to consume the water and energy resources more rationally,

- to plant more trees and take care of our woods,

- to produce less waste and deposit it in arranged places,

- to keep cleanliness in parks, woods, lakes and rivers,

- to reduce to the minimum the use of plastic products,

- to do our utmost to protect the nature!

Together, we can ensure the zero pollution goal, for healthier people and a sounder planet.

Thank you!”.
