National programme on afforestation discussed at Moldovan presidency

Chisinau, 5 June /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu on 4 June had a new meeting of the working group for the elaboration of the national programme on Moldova’s afforestation. Along with representatives of the competent public institutions, civil society from the sector and the Congress of Local Authorities from Moldova, the head of state analyzed proposals prepared by the working group, the presidential press service has reported.

„We have ambitious goals for the next ten years; we want to plant at least 100,000 hectares of wood. To achieve this objective, we must everybody get involved, mobilize domestic and external resources. I hope that we will manage to prepare and launch the programme till the end of this year. Also, we should stop corruption which destroys the woods, excessively exploiting the forest fund,’’ Maia Sandu said.  

The Moldovan president reiterated that everybody deserves to live in a clean environment, which means healthier people, more ecological food products and less climate shocks.
