Moldova, Italy sign agreement in social security sector

Chisinau, 19 June /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu signed along with Italian Minister of Labour and Social Policies Andrea Orlando the Agreement in the social security sector, during her visit to Rome on 18 June, the presidential press service has reported.   

„This is a document expected by our fellow countrymen, who have worked or work in Italy. It gives them possibility for the fact that, if they get a pension in Italy, they can receive it at home as well, and vice versa – to be able to receive the pension from Moldova in Italy,’’ President Maia Sandu said.  

Under the agreement, each state will calculate and will pay the pension proportionally to the insurance period, carried out on its own territory and only based on the contributions paid legally. Besides, based on this treaty, the disability pension triggered by a general disease, the disability pensions and allowance,  caused by a labour accident or professional disease, will be provided as well. Thus, our fellow countrymen will be able to choose on the territory of which state to receive the pensions and social benefits they have right to.  

„I thanked Minister Orlando and the teams of both countries for the work carried out to finish this agreement. We also agreed on continuing to consolidate the bilateral cooperation relations in the social protection and labour sector, which are so important for our community from Italy,’’ the head of state stressed.
